Etosha Camps - Okaukuejo

Okaukuejo is the oldest camp in the park and is the administrative base for all operations. It is located 17 kms from the southernmost entrance gate called Andersons Gate. The camp lies at the western edge of the Pan with every form of accommodation requirement available to the traveller. From the ultra luxurious Lodges that overlook the waterhole, down to the family chalets and double rooms. The Campsite is a great favourite for all the self drive overland tourists.

All the conveniences can be found at the camp including a shop where basic supplies, cold drinks and meat can be bought, a curio shop, post office, restaurant and take away, through to a fuel station.

One of the camps main attractions is the flood lit Waterhole which has a horse-shoe seating area around its perimeter. Here a wide diversity of wildlife congregates and interacts. The spectacle starts at dawn, with animals coming in large numbers to quench their thirst, with the activity continuing throughout the day and deep into the night. In the early evenings, it is not uncommon to have black rhinoceros, elephant and lion all drinking at the same time

Access to the open plains means that it is easy to spot and find the game. However during the dry months, the visitor need only drive to the various waterholes to find the game in large numbers gathering to quench their thirst.
